New cycle parking locations in Cambridge city centre
Consultation has concluded
Cambridge is the UK’s leading cycling city and there is a growing demand for cycling parking within the city centre. At busy times, cycle parking is limited and many of the existing cycle racks are full.
To help meet demand, we propose over 200 additional cycle parking places in 18 locations throughout the city centre. Please tell us your views on the proposed racks by marking on your comments and ideas for new cycling parking spaces on our interactive map by Friday 23 November 2018.
The majority of the cycle racks proposed are located on single or double yellow lines on the road. There are also a small number of racks proposed on existing Pay and Display parking spaces and one on Regent Street on the footpath.
Some of the cycling parking proposed provide new cycle racks in locations where there are none nearby whilst others are extensions to existing cycle racks. The two locations on Regent Terrace are proposed as spaces for dockless hire bikes such as Mobike and Ofo. These are not suitable for cycle racks as space is too constrained when there are building works in the area.
32% of Cambridge residents’ work journeys are already made by bicycle and cyclists make up a nearly a third of all Cambridge traffic. We plan to develop a better and greener transport network - public transport, cycling and walking - for Greater Cambridge that keeps people, business and ideas connected, as the area continues to grow.
The new cycle parking proposals are part of our City Access project to support the development of a world class transport system that makes it easy to get into, out of and around Cambridge in ways that enhance the environment and retain the beauty of the city.
