A141 and St Ives Improvement Scheme
The A141 and St Ives Improvement Scheme public consultation is open from 16 October 2024 and closes on 27 November 2024.
Cambridgeshire County Council is seeking residents' and stakeholders' views on the proposed A141 and St Ives Improvement Study.
The A141 and St Ives Improvements Study is considering upgrades to the transport network along the A141 corridor and around Huntingdon and St Ives to improve the way people move both locally and around the region. The St Ives transport network is important for the market town of St Ives and surrounding villages while the A141 is crucial for the whole Huntingdon and St Ives area. The A141 travel network also has strategic importance to the future sustainable growth of the wider region.
Some of the current challenges faced by the A141 and St Ives Road network include traffic jams and delays at peak times, unreliable journey times, road safety issues and risk of accidents. It also suffers from noise and air quality issues due to congestion and rat-running on minor roads and through villages. There is also a lack of safe, off-road cycling and walking options and minimal good public transport routes.
The scheme aims to:
Reduce congestion, heavy traffic and delays
Improve journey times
Improve road safety
Reduce noise and air pollution
Improve walking and cycling options
Improve reliability for public transport
Increase infrastructure capacity for growing numbers of new homes and jobs
The study supports the Combined Authority’s Local Transport and Connectivity Plan (LTCP) and Huntingdonshire District Council’s (HDC) Local Plan, which states that “our A141 and St Ives Improvements project is currently being prioritised and worked on to reduce congestion and improve reliability across the study area to facilitate sustainable growth, improve the public realm, as well as improving connectivity through active travel modes, walking, and cycling. In addition, improvements to bus service provision and interchange will be taken in consideration.”
